Merfolk live in all waters across the world. Lakes, rivers, streams, ponds, oceans, etc. They also have their own civilizations, like: Cantre'r Gwaelod, LEMURIA/MU/MURIAS, ATLANTIS, LYONESSE, and Kumari Kandam.
Many of us in the past have imagined Mermaids to live in small pod groups, living from place to place, as depicted in the Animal Planet special, "Mermaids: The Body Found." We also tend to imagine them as solitary creatures. But when we look at it in terms of how humanity has developed from hunter gatherers to advanced civilizations, it just doesn't make sense. Mermaids are known to be far wiser and advanced than we are, so why do we assume they are primitive hunting groups? More and more evidence suggests that Mermaids actually live in complex cities, villages, and even have homes. In the late 1600's, a man from the Isle of Man used a diving bell, as a resource to explore the ocean floor. According to his written account, he describes what he saw of a Merfolk village. "They've [the merfolk] a town square of sorts and a market with fish of every kind set owt. That homes is built all owt of coral, I thinks, and some crusted o'er with mother O pearl and all. Maine windows and doors, high and low, were in 'em as the mermaids sawn in and owt where e'er they would."*

Im not saying that mermaids are not real but both documentaries about mermaids from animal planet are fake. It had the highest views from anything else they aired and got a shit ton of money for it.
